Nick Johne – Improv for Autism at Second City

Join me and learn more about the funny and wonderful Nick Johne who is using his vast knowledge of improv to enhance the lives of people on the autism spectrum. I met Nick last summer at the Yes, and Mental Health Conference https://yes-and-mental-health.site123.me in Chicago last fall. An alumnus of Toronto’s award-winning Second City Main Stage cast, Nick Johne has been teaching improvisation in various capacities since 1983. He is currently teaching at The Second City Chicago and in the Theater Department of DePaul University where he is adjunct faculty. He has performed all over the world and was an original member of the workshop production of the Tony award-winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone. Nick Johne currently lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter.

What a pleasure to catch up with Kelly Leonard, longtime Creative Executive at The Second City in Chicago who speaks with us about the power of improvisation to transform people’s lives . His book, “Yes, And: Lessons from The Second City” was released to critical acclaim in 2015 by HarperCollins and was praised by Michael Lewis in Vanity Fair who called it “…an excellent guide to the lessons that have bubbled up in Second City’s improv workshops.”

Meet Southwest Florida’s improv master Craig Price, who studied with the legendary Del Close at Improv Olympic and Second City in Chicago. Craig performed and studied for two years at Second City and IO before moving to Denver and performing for 5 years and 550 shows ComedySportz of Denver. He then moved to Southwest Florida where he was instrumental in leading the improv movement that has taken Southwest Florida by comedic storm. Craig is the Education Director at the Naples Players where he continues to teach improv to kids under 18 and adults. Since being at TNP, Craig has initiated a Wellness/Inclusive Improv Program where he teaches Acting & Improv for kids with ASD & SDP, Improv for Adults with Disabilities and a special needs improv class for High School students. Margot and Craig discuss the highs and lows that improv players experience on and off stage.
